Six Shopping Hacks That Will Save You Time and Money

What to Always Do, Sometimes Do, and Never Do! to make the most out of your shopping trip. Tips from How to Win at Shopping!

  • How to Win at Shopping Book CoverSometimes after placing an item in your online shopping cart and closing the browser window, within forty-eight hours you will receive a discount promo code from the retailer to sway you to complete your purchase. Don't let this lure you into making a purchase you are unsure of. However, if you do really want the item, this is great!
  • Always sit down when trying on clothing. An item may look great when you're standing up straight, but it is also worth seeing how it looks and feels when you're seated. After all, you'll be spending time sitting down in everything you buy. Most fitting rooms have seating, so this is easy to do.
  • Holiday (or any-time) gifts can always be gift wrapped and shipped directly to the recipient, saving you the time of wrapping and shipping yourself! For a nominal fee, both online and brick-and-mortar retailers offer inexpensive gift wrapping and shipping services. The time you would have spent doing this is often better used finishing up your holiday shopping or finding a gift for yourself.
  • Always scan a department for color first, then go in for a closer look at style, size, fabric, and price point. It's easy to get overwhelmed when approaching racks and racks of clothing. Color is the easiest starting point.
  • Never pay for online shipping during the holidays. There is so much competition for your business that you never have to pay for shipping during this time of year. If a site doesn't offer free shipping, get in touch with customer service and tell the representative you will purchase on another site if the company won't waive the shipping. Nine times out of ten, the company will be happy to accommodate you.
  • Never be afraid to ask if an item will go on sale. Who doesn't want to pay less? Located in the stockroom or employee lounge of the store is a detailed calendar with all of the upcoming promotions and sales written on it. Ask your salesperson to take a peek at it. What can you lose?

The Power of Positive Thinking

The Power of Positive Thinking - Page-A-DayThe power of positive thinking can actually change your life, at least that's what we think at Page-A-Day.

The stress of work and school, family life, health or financial problems, or even just the stress of day-to-day life can crush your spirit.  Add to that the global concerns about the health and safety of people around the world, the environment, and random dangers that our out of our control, and, well, you've got a pretty good reason to be neurotic.

But here's the catch: there is beauty everywhere. There is peace everywhere. There is safety and comfort all around us, if we open our eyes to it and let the light in.

How do you do that?

It depends on you! Whether you love upbeat positive affirmations, or you just actively surround yourself with things that make you feel joyful, you are working toward a happier world—a better world, in our opinion.

Here are a few calendar pages to add a breath of positivity and beauty to your day. Have a great day!

Meet Jaxton: Our Page-A-Day® Dog of the Week!

Jaxton, Page-A-Day Dog of the Week

Jaxton is our 4 year old Pomeranian. He is attentive, sweet, extremely intelligent, & will sneak in a kiss any chance he gets! He is definitely a Mama's boy who listens VERY well. He also listens well to his new little sassy sister, Lola. He lets her play the role of "queen of the house" & is very protective of her. Jax LOVES dental bones & truly enjoys dressing up. He gets overly excited when we bring home new outfits :) My six nieces dress him up in their American Doll clothing & proudly parade him around. We attend many Humane Society walks/events together & Jaxton enjoys posing for photographs with both the kids & the adults who stop us asking for a quick photo-op! He is my heart.

Foodie Alert! Read 1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Dieā„¢

1,000 Foods To Eat Before You Die Front Cover

The ultimate gift for the food lover. In the same way that 1,000 Places to See Before You Die reinvented the travel book, 1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die is a joyous, informative, dazzling, mouthwatering life list of the world’s best food.

1,000 Foods fully delivers on the promise of its title, selecting from the best cuisines around the world (French, Italian, Chinese, of course, but also Senegalese, Lebanese, Mongolian, Peruvian, and many more)-the tastes, ingredients, dishes, and restaurants that every reader should experience and dream about, whether it's dinner at Chicago's Alinea or the perfect empanada.

Mimi Sheraton is highly opinionated, and has a gift for supporting her recommendations with smart, sensuous descriptions-you can almost taste what she's tasted. You'll want to eat your way through the book (after searching first for what you have already tried, and comparing notes). Then, following the romance, the practical: where to taste the dish or find the ingredient, and where to go for the best recipes, websites included.

Anthony Bourdain, author, host and food enthusiast had this to say about 1,000 Foods To Eat Before You Die, "Mimi Sheraton was one of the few critics or writers on food who, had she expressed displeasure with me, would have caused me to consider quitting the business. As a chef, I feared and respected her. As a writer and observer and enthusiast-as someone who travels largely on his stomach-I can tell you that what Mimi doesn't know is hardly worth knowing. This fat, comprehensive guide to the 1,000 foods to eat before dying is just that: 1,000 foods you NEED to try, urgently. Read ... and seek."

On sale now, 1,000 Foods To Eat Before You Die is a book that you will love for traveling, planning vacations and using to explore in your area.
