This year marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the original "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster created by the British government in 1939. At the start of World War II, the British people were dreading the start of another dehabilitating, heartbreaking conflict. This concise, uplifting slogan was designed to help raise citizens' morale.
Interestingly, though many were printed only a few of these posters were hung in England during this time. In the year 2000, a bunch of the posters were discovered and since then, the slogan and its offspring have been popping up left and right in popular culture, including our gorgeous Keep Calm and Carry On Mini Wall Calendar, Page-A-Day Calendar, and Poster Calendar.
While “Keep Calm and...” may have originated in a time of great conflict, it's been adopted and tweaked to motivate people through all sorts of sticky situations.
You might even say this appropriated motto has become the slogan of the year—certainly this holiday season!
