Memorial Day Drink Recipes

Memorial Day is the first celebration of summer, and if you're hosting a BBQ or party on this day, you'll probably want everything to be perfect! We're here to help with four cocktail recipes from some of our favorite books: Dry, Day Drinkingand SloshiesThese two alcoholic and two non-alcoholic drinks are sure to make your guests feel welcomed and cared for:

Law-Abiding Citizen
Citrus Blitz (non-alcoholic)
Blueberry Julep (non-alcoholic)

Law-Abiding Citizen from Day Drinking by Kat Odell

Makes 1

Ingredients

  • 3/4 ounce pomegranate liqueur, such as PAMA
  • 1 1/2 ounces amontillado sherry, such as Hidalgo Napoleon
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 ounce Simple Syrup
  • Bittermens 'Elemakule Tiki Bitters, for garnish (optional, but recommended)

Directions

Combine the pomegranate liqueur, sherry, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add ice cubes to fill three-quarters full. Cover and shake until the shaker is frosty, about 15 seconds. Double-strain into a coupe glass. Top with four drops of the bitters, if you like.


Citrus Blitz from Sloshies by Jerry Nevins

Makes at least 4 drinks

Ingredients

  • 1/2 ounce water
  • 8 1/4 ounces Simple Syrup
  • 3 ounces lime juice
  • 14 1/4 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 14 1/4 ounces pineapple juice

Directions

Combine: Place the ingredients in a medium-size metal bowl and stir.

Freeze: Pour the liquid into a large freezer bag and place it in the freezer until frozen, approximately 4 hours. Alternatively, pour the liquid into an ice cream maker and proceed per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Serve: When you’re ready to drink, massage the freezer bag by hand until it’s a wet, slushy consistency. If it’s not breaking up, run the bag quickly under hot water and massage some more.



Blueberry Julep from Dry by Clare Liardet

Serves 1

You will need: muddler; tumbler or copper mug

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (40g) blueberries
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Crushed ice
  • 7 ounces (200 ml) ginger beer
  • Sprig of mint and a wedge of lime to garnish

Directions

  1. In a large glass, muddle the blueberries, mint leaves, lime, and sugar.
  2. Transfer to a tumbler or mug and add crushed ice, before pouring in the ginger beer and garnishing with the sprig of mint and wedge of lime.
