Musician Paul McCartney of Beatles fame loved his old sheepdog so much that he wrote a song about her. "Martha My Dear," is about Paul's first pet.
Rolling Stone magazine reported that Paul said, "I remember John being amazed to see me being so loving to an animal. He said, 'I've never seen you like that before.' I've since thought, you know, he wouldn't have. It's only when you're cuddling around with a dog that you're in that mode, and she was a very cuddly dog."

Martha wasn't the only animal who touched Paul's heart—in fact, Paul has been a vegetarian since 1975 and is a passionate advocate for animal rights. His family loves animals as well. This photo from 1976 shows

Paul can't be shoehorned into being a "dog person," or a "cat person" — rumor has it that Paul once had a trio of kittens named Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. His Beatles bandmate John Lennon also famously loved felines.
